Nine boys and seven girls make up the boys’ and girls’ teams representing their country at the round-robin event against England, Ireland and Wales over the links at Monifieth from tomorrow (Tuesday) to Thursday (August 6).

Three of the boys’ team successfully took part in last year’s event at Cork Golf Club in Ireland.

Fraser Brown, Aidan Lawson and the new Scottish Boys’ Amateur champion Fraser Walters, who previously lived in Aberlady and golfed at Craigielaw, where he is still a member, will hope to put the positive experience of a year ago to good use on home soil.

Joining Brown, Lawson and Walters in the boys’ team are Oli Henderson (Bathgate), Eddie Jackson (Turnhouse), Fraser MacKenzie (Inverness), Oli Robertson (Deeside), Cole Stewart (Carnoustie Caledonia) and Alexander Yuill (Gullane).

For the girls, there are four players who featured last year – reigning Scottish Girls’ Amateur champion Carly McDonald, current Scottish Women’s Amateur champion Erin Huskie, Ralston’s Melissa Keay and Hannah Ounap from Loudoun.

Also included are Louisa Hamilton (Ponteland), Holly McKenzie (Murcar Links) and Stella Walters (Blairgowrie), younger sister of Fraser Walters.

In keeping with recent tradition, the combined team will challenge for the main trophy, which was first played for in 2021.

However, the historic boys’ and girls’ individual trophies are also on the table.

Last year in Ireland, Scotland narrowly lost to England for the overall trophy.

The boys, however, emerged victorious in two competitions.

A final-day win against England allowed the boys to take their individual title and also retain the International Cup, which goes to the winner of the head-to-head in the ‘Auld Enemy’ match.

Each nation will face each other over the course of the three-day event in a round-robin match play format.

A match will consist of seven morning foursomes (4×2 boys, 3×2 girls) and 14 afternoon singles (eight boys and six girls).

A point will be awarded for each game won and a half point for each game that finishes level after 18 holes.
