A crowdfunding appeal has been launched to create a new deer sculpture for Canute Place roundabout, a gateway into the town.
Knutsford Town Council hopes to commission professional chainsaw wood sculptor Andy Burgess to come up with a design.
Back in 2013, Knutsford in Bloom was gifted ‘Elvis’, a wire-frame deer, stuffed with moss, which was installed at the centre of the roundabout.
Sadly, over time, the frame deteriorated and had to be removed in 2023.
Now, after consulting with the local community, most people said they’d love to see a wood carving.
Andy, 52, of Knutsford, said: “It would be a great honour.
“I go past that roundabout six times a day, it’s on my doorstep.
“I want to do my best and work with the council to do a fantastic job.
“It could be a really iconic sculpture for people to soon as soon as they come into the town.”
Self-taught Andy transforms windblown, diseased and fallen trees into carvings of various animals, birds and figures.

The dad-of-two unveiled his biggest ever carving of a life-sized stag at the RHS Flower Show in Tatton Park, home to two herds of wild deer, red and fallow.
Andy said: “I was in Tatton yesterday. People were taking photographs of the deer.
“A stag is an amazing sight to behold. We are very lucky to see them on a daily basis.”
Andy carved a stunning sculpture of King Canute from a fallen oak tree donated by Henry Brooks of Tatton Estate.
The life-sized carving is now in the garden of Knutsford Heritage Centre, to mark the visit of King Cnut, more than 1,000 years ago.
Andy transformed a diseased oak tree into a stag’s head complete with antlers at Knutsford’s Toft Cricket Club.
Andy said: “I can do a small carving someone can carry away under their arm or something that needs to be delivered on a crane.
“With this deer on the roundabout being a public installation, you have to be mindful that it is safe and secure.”
The council hopes to raise £5,000 towards the sculpture.
