Ugandan sports outlet NBS Sports named the athletes as Angel Katushabe, Nuhu Batte, Ibrahim Khemis and Emily Nakalema.

The Weekly Observer, a Ugandan newspaper, also reported the disappearances, saying it had spoken to officials at Uganda Bombers, the country’s national boxing team.

The claims emerged after the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which brought 11 days of sporting action to venues across Glasgow, came to a close on Sunday night.

It would not be the first time members of Team Uganda have failed to return home after a major event. Reports from 2018 said at least five Ugandan boxers vanished during the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Two Ugandan rugby sevens players, Benon Kizza and Philip Pariyo, also disappeared after Glasgow 2014, before later claiming asylum and settling in Cardiff, according to contemporary reporting

The Home Office, the Scottish Government and Uganda’s ministry responsible for sport have been approached for comment.
