A sweet baby elephant couldn’t stay awake after she had a long day out in the sun, and the internet is absolutely in love.
In a TikTok video, the baby elephant was caught taking a well-deserved nap after a busy day. In the video, the sweet baby girl lay down on the hay and looked completely peaceful while she rested. She opened her eyes at one point but seemed to go back to sleep pretty quickly.
In the caption, the witness wrote that she’s just a “sleepy little girl” after she enjoyed a day out. In another video posted by the same account, the baby elephant was spotted playing in a bucket of water and soaking up the afternoon sun.
People online loved the moment and how sleepy the elephant looked, with users commenting, “this baby is adorable 🥰.”
“Precious,” another person wrote. “I want to cuddle with her. Look at all those baby hairs, it’s like a fuzzy peach.”
Others couldn’t get enough of the “adorable baby,” with another user commenting that they loved “the little tongue sticking out.”

How Much Do Baby Elephants Sleep?
Just like other baby animals, baby elephants need plenty of sleep and rest, even if they’re considered “the world’s shortest-sleeping mammals,” according to Elephant Jungle Sanctuary.
Elephants typically get two hours of sleep every 24 hours. The reason is their large size and the amount of food needed to maintain their energy levels. The sanctuary explained that elephants “need to eat approximately 300 kilograms of food daily” and require “8 to 20 hours a day just for foraging and eating” in order to keep up and digest.
In the wild, “at least one or two members will stay awake to act as guards” in order to keep an eye out for danger and will sleep less. However, in a controlled, enclosed environment where they don’t need to worry about danger or forage for food, elephants “can sleep for 4 to 6 hours or even longer.”
Baby elephants sleep three to four hours, unlike adult elephants, to support their “rapid growth,” and are often spotted “lying flat on their sides” or “tucked safely between their mothers’ legs.”
