Simon Kinberg of Star Wars Rebels fame has noted that Andor is one of the influences on the live-action trilogy that he is developing.
Nerdtropolis recently spoke with the producer and writer Simon Kinberg, who — like a lot of us — was absolutely thrilled with how good both seasons of Andor went. He stated that, along with his continued working relationships with Dave Filoni and Kathleen Kennedy, seeing what Tony Gilroy came up with reaffirmed his commitment to this franchise:
“There’s a ton of wildly talented folks that want to do great work. I was super inspired and just sort of awestruck by what Tony Gilroy did with Andor. I thought that was about as good of science fiction storytelling as you can do in any franchise.”
He also noted that he is consistently blown away that he gets the opportunity to work with a franchise that’s so dear to himself and a lot of other people around the world:
“It’s not even a dream come true — I couldn’t have dreamed it; just to be told there’d be more movies would have been unbelievable. To be allowed on the set of any of them was already a dream. My enthusiasm only grows with working on and around it.”
Simon Kinberg has a particularly interesting career in Hollywood full of ups and downs. While he has had successes as a writer with the X-Men: Days of Future Past, he has also had disappointments like X-Men: The Last Stand, Fant4stic, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix. As a producer, he’s also helped realize the vision needed to get the first two Deadpool movies off the ground, along with the critically-acclaimed Logan and (outside the realm of Marvel) The Martian. In terms of Star Wars, however, he’s had more consistent success – aside from helping get the $2B movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens off the ground with an early treatment for its script, he wrote and co-wrote many of the most important episodes of Star Wars Rebels, and was helpful enough in getting the franchise back off the ground after a decade of dormancy on film that he got some “Special Thanks” credits in both The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
No release dates have been assigned to the trilogy of films that Simon Kinberg is developing.
