Other options shortlisted for Waffle included Tots, Hassleback, Gnocchi and Chip.
Jersey Zoo announced in June that their capybaras Tayto and Tango were “proud parents” after Tayto gave birth.
It comes a year after Tango forced the zoo to close temporarily after escaping from an enclosure.
He was later spotted elsewhere in the zoo grounds.
Capybara come from South America and are semi-aquatic rodents, likened to large guinea-pigs.
