A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a pedestrian was killed in a crash in Sutton Coldfield.

Police said the pedestrian, a man in his late 70s, was struck by a car in Thornhill Road, Streetly, just before 6pm yesterday, August 16.

He was found with fatal injuries.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving following the tragedy.

He remained in custody for questioning this afternoon.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We’ve arrested a man after a pedestrian has tragically died after being hit by a car in Streetly.

“We were called to a collision in Thornhill Road at just before 6pm yesterday (16 August).

“A man in his late-70s was found with fatal injuries.

“Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this devastating time and we’ll be doing all we can to support them.

“A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving.

“He currently remains in custody for questioning.

“We’re working to establish the full circumstances and we’re keen to hear from anyone with information about the collision which involved a white Mercedes.

“We’re particularly interested in speaking to the driver of a silver Range Rover who may have important information.
