Off-contract World Cup hopeful released by Super League club with immediate effect

Super League side Toulouse Olympique have released one of their off-contract stars with six games still left to play in the season.

The Olympians, playing just their second season in Super League, have impressed in 2026 with Sylvain Houles’ side sitting in ninth in the table, with seven wins from 21 games.

Like fellow promoted side York, Toulouse are on half the central funding that the other 12 Super League clubs get but they still sit clear of four clubs on full funding, and that’s been thanks to their savvy recruitment.

One such recruit who they signed back in 2023, just after they had been relegated from Super League, was Cook Islands international Reubenn Rennie, who the club have now confirmed has been released from his contract early.

Rennie, who will be hopeful of representing his nation at this year’s World Cup, was off-contract at the end of the season but he’s now been afforded a release with the French side sharing a brief statement.

That brief statement announced: “By mutual agreement, Reubenn Rennie and Toulouse Olympique have decided to bring to an end, with immediate effect, the contract that bound them until the end of the season.

“Reubenn will have played 67 matches in Olympian colors, scoring 33 tries over four seasons.
