With the regular PGA Tour campaign done and dusted for another year, there are a number of household names whose season ends here after missing the FedEx Cup Playoffs…
The battle to reach the FedEx Cup Playoffs is over.
The final event of the regular season, the Wyndham Championship, finished on Sunday and only the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings made it into the FedEx St Jude Championship – the first of the PGA Tour’s postseason shootouts.
Before we get into it, though, let’s have a brief reminder of how the FedEx Cup Playoffs work. (You can find a more detailed explanation here.)
FedEx Cup format
It has changed several times since its inception in 2007, but here is how it’s set up for 2026.
The top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings after the Wyndham Championship will qualify for the first Playoff event, the FedEx St Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Tennessee.
Of those 70, 20 will be cut and the top 50 will qualify for the second of the Playoffs at the BMW Championship, which this year will be at Bellerive in Missouri.
From there, another 20 will be chopped and the top 30 will make their way to East Lake for the Tour Championship.

Right, whose season is over for now? Here are the big names who didn’t make it into the PGA Tour’s postseason. And remember, as always, it’s just a bit of fun. If you don’t think a player listed below is a “big name”, that says more about you than it does us, so please don’t write in.
73. Matt Wallace
It feels like we get to this stage every season and find Wallace on the periphery of making it into the PGA Tour’s postseason. (See also: Ryder Cup, The.)
74. Keegan Bradley
Boy, that Ryder Cup really did a number on ol’ Keegs didn’t it? He was in some of the form of his life when he was named US captain by the PGA of America and almost certainly should have picked himself for the 2025 matches. Since then, though, it’s been a series of mid-leaderboard finishes and interviews about how much that week in Bethpage has affected him.
82. Jason Day
The popular Aussie has been struggling with injury recently and since his T12 at the Masters, his record reads 42-38-68-65-MC-WD-55-MC-MC. Chalk it down to another season of making more headlines for his outfits than his golf.
87. Brandt Snedeker
The Prez Cup captain is almost certainly concentrating more on those duties but he’s a former FedEx Cup champion who won a PGA Tour title this season so he gets on here for that reason alone.
94. Brooks Koepka
The five-time major champ has battled a few injury problems in his return season on the PGA Tour – but that didn’t stop him going pretty hard on himself. “Pretty disappointed,” Koepka said when asked to assess his year. “I think it’s pretty pathetic that I can’t get through [to the Playoffs]. Zero top-10s basically in two years. To be in the prime of your career and be as good as I think I am, I think that’s very pathetic, disappointing. I just need to go home and completely reevaluate everything.” However, he says his “overall happiness is 10 out of 10” about being back on the PGA Tour. “It’s been great,” he added. “I’ve loved it. I feel fantastic. The reception’s been great.”
98. Tony Finau
Finau has never missed the FedEx Cup Playoffs as a pro, until now, but he gets so many questionable invites the PGA Tour will probably tell him to come along anyway.
100. Billy Horschel
Another player who has struggled with injury in the past couple of seasons, but given Horschel’s record in the postseason events it still feels strange to not have him there.
107. Rasmus Hojgaard
Hojgaard’s 4th-place finish at the Rocket last week was his first top-10 since March but it wasn’t enough. Still, at least the Dane gets to come home and play in his homeland.
112. Marco Penge
Penge has been hugely unlucky with health issues this year and has only been able to tee up in 13 PGA Tour events outside the majors. Like Hojgaard, will no doubt return to Europe to continue his recovery.
121. Joel Dahmen
Joel. Mate. How many times are we going to keep doing this?
143. Matt Kuchar
Kuch finished 118th in last year’s FedEx Cup before using one of his two career earnings exemptions. He’ll now have to play his other to keep his card for ’27.
171. Zach Johnson
ZJ probably shouldn’t be in this list given he hasn’t made the FedEx Cup Playoffs since ’21 and the former Champion Golfer can’t even be bothered to show up to The Open these days – which sort of makes sense, given he’s now 50 and tearing it up on the Champions Tour with four victories already.
