GTA 6's $100 PS5 Ultimate Edition Is Getting More Pre-Orders Than the Cheaper Version 1

The single biggest game on the horizon is Grand Theft Auto 6, and while it’s certainly stirred up some controversy in the run up to launch, it seems many are willing to spend big on it.

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive, has not only said that pre-orders are “exceptional” so far, but it seems the majority are opting for the most expensive version of GTA 6.

In this clip from an interview with CNBC, Zelnick says pre-orders for the game are “skewing more towards the premium edition”, which is fairly plain to see if you check out the best-selling pre-orders on PS Store.

The GTA 6 Ultimate Edition, which retails for $99.99/£89.99, is tracking higher than the $79.99/£69.99 Standard Edition.

Zelnick suggests this trend may indicate “the most avid consumers are the ones who are pre-ordering.”

For the extra $20/£20, the Ultimate Edition of GTA 6 provides you with a hefty amount of additional in-game content, including extra vehicles, weapons, cosmetics, and even in-game locations like shops and a contraband store you can raid for items.

Those who want the full experience might therefore feel they have no choice but to plump for the pricier version, although you’ll be able to upgrade to get the Ultimate Edition content at any time.

I think it’s also worth pointing out that the more expensive editions of practically every game tend to sell better than the regular editions.

If you view pre-orders on PS Store, the premium edition of nearly every listed game is tracking higher than its respective standard SKU. It seems this is a very typical pattern of behaviour, so isn’t unique to GTA 6.

Still, it’s interesting that people are ready and willing to spend more for their games, even as they reach triple figures.
