Here’s our recap of what hasn’t been fixed in Oblivion Remastered.

Oblivion Remastered remains in a bad state on consoles and PC more than a year after launch, with stuttering, degraded performance and crashes galore. Now, as the game launches on Switch 2, Bethesda has put out a tweet acknowledging the situation, and stating that they are attempting to port optimisations designed for the Switch 2 version to the game on other platforms, such as PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

It’s a welcome note, albeit one that has come much later than expected in the game’s lifetime. The game is a complex beast technically speaking, with the original code running underneath an Unreal Engine 5 veneer, but at present the game on PS5, Xbox and PC still doesn’t live up to its clear potential.

We’ve heard your feedback asking for an additional patch for Oblivion Remastered. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game has a number of optimizations that we are looking into bringing to other platforms and we will share more when we are able.— Bethesda Game Studios (@BethesdaStudios) August 11, 2026

We’ve not yet had a chance to comprehensively test the Switch 2 version for ourselves, but some reports online suggest it’s in a somewhat better place in terms of performance and stability compared to the extant PS5 and Xbox Series X versions. If that’s true, then perhaps there’s some hope that the game will become a whole lot better on console – even if it’s disappointing that it would have taken at least 15 months for the game to get to that point!

We’ve just started our Switch 2 analysis, with Tom taking the lead there, so we’ll follow up with a full review once it’s ready – thanks for your patience. In the meantime, the game’s launch trailer has some footage to whet your appetite.

In the meantime, I’d be curious to hear your initial impressions in the comments below.
