Hull FC will be without Zak Hardaker for the next ‘two-to-four weeks’, interim head coach Andy Last has confirmed.
Hardaker suffered a calf injury towards the back end of Hull’s 32-18 victory at St Helens last Thursday night, with Last hopeful he will successfully rehab the injury and feature again this year.
Elsewhere, Last also revealed the full extent of Yusuf Aydin’s knee injury. The forward will be out for up to 12 weeks with a PCL blow, with a tear to the player’s quad also revealed.
The timeframe puts him near the start of pre-season, with the out-of-contract player in discussions with the club a few months ago regarding a new deal.
“Zak has had a scan and he’s got a grade two gastro tear,” Last confirmed. “He is potentially two to four weeks away. Zak is a tough lad and he heals a bit quicker than the others. I’m hoping it’s closer to the two-week side than the four-week side.
“He’s doing a little bit of his rehab now and getting some treatment and doing the best he can to get back on the field sooner rather than later.
“Yusuf has had a scan. He’s done his PCL, and he’s also torn a muscle in his quad. He’s going to be out for 12 weeks, which probably gets him to the point of starting the pre-season, fingers crossed. He looks after himself – and he’s a good pro, is Yusuf. He’ll definitely be in and amongst it.”
Reminded that he is off-contract at the end of the year, Last said: “I know he was in chats. I don’t know if they were agreed upon or signed. He was putting his best foot forward for this year and it’s a shame he’s picked up that injury. The timing isn’t great, but the club will be having those conversations.”
Last also confirmed that Tom Briscoe has been rested for the Castleford game, with the veteran having had some back issues in recent weeks.
“He’s rested,” Last said. “He’s been having some back spasms. He has been suffering with them during the week, leading into the St Helens game. He toughed it out in that centre for us but felt it during the course of the game.
“It didn’t free up over the weekend, so I made a decision with Arthur (Romano) back and Davy (Litten) available again. Lewis (Martin) and Harvey (Barron) will get their opportunity on the wings. Tommy is a little bit banged up and we’ll try to get him closer to a full tank of petrol for next week.”
Hull will also be without Max Wood after he was recalled by parent club Warrington Wolves. On a lighter note, Ligi Sao and Sam Lisone are back in the squad and will be given every chance to play on Friday night.
