Castleford Tigers owner Martin Jepson has issued a statement amid the chaos currently ongoing at the club, confirming that Ryan Carr will not take charge against Hull FC, and that Luke Robinson has been appointed as an assistant coach.
Jepson has made clear that the appointment of former Huddersfield boss Robinson is simply to an assistant role, and not as a head coach, though no comments were made on the future of Ryan Carr.
Reports emerged early last week that Carr had been suspended with Castleford then waiting over 24 hours to respond, and when the Tigers did, they reported that Carr would not take charge of last week’s clash against Hull KR for ‘personal reasons’.
Director of rugby Chris Chester took charge of that game and he fielded questions from the press today (Thursday) and it’s now confirmed by owner Jepson that Carr will not be in attendance on Friday night when the Tigers take on Hull FC.

Castleford Tigers owner shares statement with fans addressed
His statement focused on apologising to the fans for the lack of communication, whilst also announcing Robinon’s appointment.
Jepson said: “On behalf of myself and the board of directors, we apologise to all of our fans for the lack of communication regarding this delicate situation, it is highly frustrating for all concerned and we will share information as and when we are able to do so.”

For now though, they’ve added a fresh coach into the mix, with Jepson explaining: “To support our efforts on the field, we can confirm that Luke Robinson will join Castleford Tigers as an assistant coach with immediate effect, the former Huddersfield player and coach brings a wealth of experience and will support our efforts going forward. For the record, we can confirm that Luke will not be joining as the head coach, and we welcome him on board.”
The Castleford owner also pointed to the illness of CEO Danny Wilson as being something that is hampering the Tigers in their efforts lately, as fans were asked to get behind the club going forward.
“We are working really hard in the background to try and finish the season on a high, we have had to deal with a lot of diversity (sic) alongside a difficult season to date. To add to this, our CEO Danny Wilson has been seriously ill in hospital for the last three weeks, Danny leads multiple areas of our business, and this unfortunate position has left a huge hole in our team. We are all supporting Danny and his family and wish him a speedy recovery.
“As the chairman and a board of directors, we are united in our approach and we have the club’s best interests at heart, can I please ask that all of our fans get behind our coaches, players and staff and support this great club.”
