Netflix drama The Diplomat has been given an exciting update on season four. Fans are eagerly awaiting the next set of episodes for the political thriller, with a release date not officially announced… until now.
Lead star Keri Russell has let slip when we can expect to see the next season as part of a Variety video interview with husband and Widow’s Bay star Matthew Rhys.
In it, they are asked: “In which season of The Diplomat will Keri’s character become president?”

They then reveal their whiteboards, Russell’s saying: “Let’s watch in October.” Rhys then jokes that it will happen in the “ninth” season of the show.
An October release would fall in line with the premieres of the last two seasons, which dropped in that month in 2025 and 2024.
The fourth season comes off the back of that shocking cliffhanger at the end of the last run involving Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell) and president Grace Penn (Allison Janney).
Creator Debora Cahn previously told Tudum that she was “so excited” about the next episodes, teasing: “It’s going to be a lot of fun.
“We get to the end of a season and I always think, ‘Well, there’s no way that we can do this again.’ And then we dig back into it, and it’s like, ‘Oh my God, we have to keep going.'”

She added: “[Fans] should be worried. There’s plenty to worry about. It can be pretty chilling when you see who takes power and get the sense that they may be horrifically misusing it.”
The Diplomat focuses on Russell’s US ambassador to the UK, Kate Wyler, as she deals with international crises amid a twist-filled political backdrop. The show also features the likes of Bradley Whitford, David Gyasi, Ali Ahn and Rory Kinnear.
The series has been well-received by critics – the third run attracting a near-perfect 97% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes – with RogerEbert.com writing that the “wit, power plays, and addictive drama don’t disappoint”.
The Diplomat season 4 is expected to be released in October on Netflix. Seasons 1-3 are streaming now on Netflix.
