Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street’s dodgy newcomer Idris Nazir has his eyes set on buying Alya’s share of Speed Daal, and next week he puts his plan in motion by forcing Ollie Driscoll to take part in a high-stakes poker game.

While Ollie is a poker whiz, Idris might have bitten off more than he can chew, as one of his opponents is a fine player themselves. With Fiona Morley already running a stolen car ‘business’, it’s no surprise that she’d be good at bluffing.

It may not be a surprise to viewers, but it looks like it will be for Idris, with actor Junade Khan teasing that his cocksure character had “definitely underestimated the situation” when it comes to Fiona.

“He knows how to dip his toe in the water, and isn’t scared of mixing in dangerous circles, but he’s playing a risky game,” said the star. “I get the impression he is aware of her and the people she mixes with, but he may have underestimated her.”

While it remains to be seen how Idris will fare when facing off against Fiona, Khan has been enjoying life on the cobbles since making his debut in May, and even shared his surprise that fans took to him.

“I try to stay away from reading comments online, but I was actually surprised by how quickly people recognised me,” noted the actor, who shared that he was first recognised at Alton Towers after his debut episode.

“I was wearing a hat and sunglasses, and people still came up to me. It was surreal,” he recalled. “Even though he’s not the most likable character right now, I’m confident that, as people see more dimensions and find the humour in him, they’ll start to warm to Idris.”

Inviting Fiona isn’t the only risky part of Idris’s plan, as Brody Michaelis takes the opportunity to swipe some booze, while Leanne Battersby discovers that he’s hosting a poker night on her business property.

Will his plan work, or will it backfire on him big time?
