Newcastle United have officially unveiled new signing Jacob Ramsey after completing his move from Aston Villa.
After selling Sean Longstaff to Leeds United, Eddie Howe was eager to sign a new midfielder ahead of a hectic 2025/26 campaign.
Work was done behind the scenes to get Howe what he wanted, and that has resulted in Jacob Ramsey joining Newcastle United. The 24-year-old signs from Aston Villa, who needed to sell one of their academy stars due to PSR concerns.
Ramsey was not involved for Newcastle’s Premier League opener against Villa on Saturday, but will be in line to play in the Magpies’ first home game of the season against Liverpool.

Villa would have undoubtedly been reluctant to sell Ramsey, especially given the fact that he counts towards their UEFA registration thanks to his academy roots.
With Ramsey officially unveiled as a Newcastle player, the midfielder has shared exactly why the move made so much sense to him.

As part of Ramsey’s official announcement on social media and newcastleunited.com, the Englishman has spoken for the first time as a Magpie.
“I’m delighted to be here,” he said.
“It’s been a mad two or three days, but I’m really happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started.
“This is a big move for me, but as soon as I knew the gaffer was interested and really liked me, it didn’t take much time to decide. His track record of developing players, especially those who have gone on to become internationals here, speaks for itself.
“It was always a tough game playing for Villa against Newcastle – the team is full of energy, so athletic and the fans are so passionate. I feel my game will suit that and I’m excited to be on the other end of it now.”
Ramsey will wear the squad number 41 at Newcastle, which has previously been worn by Dan Langley, Freddie Woodman and Shane Ferguson.
Jacob Ramsey has already won a trophy with a Newcastle United player
For the first time in decades, Newcastle are entering a tournament as defending champions. The Magpies will defend the Carabao Cup following their triumph at Wembley in March.
Ramsey will no doubt be eager to bring more success to Tyneside now he has joined, but he has already managed to win silverware with a Newcastle star.
Anthony Gordon played alongside Ramsey at the Under-21s European Championships in 2023, where the pair played their part in the historic win in Romania.
Sadly, Ramsey was forced to miss the semi-final and final due to an ankle injury, but he was still able to do all he could beforehand to get them into the knockout stages.
Newcastle fans will hope that Ramsey and Gordon can form a memorable partnership on Tyneside, where even more silverware will be won.
