Phoebe Bridgers‘ new solo album, Lost Weekend, might be a staggering 16 tracks long, but the singer-songwriter has hidden one more track on the CD version of the release, which also features the former Black Country, New Road singer Isaac Wood.
On August 14th, after six years away, Bridgers released her highly anticipated third solo album, after already releasing a preppy single that featured the likes of Alex G, Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, and more.
Now, after speculation that Cameron Winter also appears on two tracks on the album, credited under an unusual pseudonym, Bridgers has one more collaborative gift for fans.
Hidden on the CD version of Lost Weekend in the pre-gap before the album’s opener, ‘The Outside’, so that listeners must go to the first song and then press backwards to find it, Bridgers has snuck in ‘Best Dressed’.
Wood wasn’t the only one involved on the new track: Conor Oberst, Jack Antonoff, and Jon Brion all have credits on ‘Best Dressed’.
Bridgers opens the song with a poetic verse, singing, In the middle of June, there’s a windowless room where no light gets through but mine. Where I made my own heart out of Frigidaire parts and I imitate art from outside.”
After the chorus, Wood gets his own verse, where he sings nostalgically, “You saved me from dancing, with Mr. Polanski, bidding farewell to my family with a smile, then you took my pulse to the Oregon Coast where we went swimming with our clothes in a pile.”
The musical relationship between Wood and Bridgers was revealed after it was announced earlier this year that the vocalist would be joining the Boy Genius star on The Lost Tour for the shows across Europe and the UK.
Far Out gave her latest album five stars, observing, “There is a reason Bridgers has denied the use of phones for her upcoming tour. Lost Weekend is nothing but a deeply personal and intimate record, yet in bringing that emotional volume to a large-scale stage, it is going to be far from an easy undertaking to endure. To slightly misquote a phrase, this is going to kill you. Just wait.”
