Ambassador Cruise Line has brought out a dedicated no-fly cruise itinerary for 2027 offering another rare chance to see a total solar eclipse.
It follows a week in which all three of the Ambassador Group’s ships operated dedicated itineraries timed around the total solar eclipse that took place earlier this month on August 12.
The line carried 1,587 passengers on board Ambience to witness the event at sea off the coast of Gijón in northern Spain, while 1,097 guests on Ambition had the chance to see the eclipse near Ittoqqortoormiit, off the coast of Greenland.
Renaissance also operated a dedicated French eclipse cruise in the Mediterranean, with specialist astronomers, aurora experts and astrophotographers on board.
Next year, the new 19-night Mediterranean Moments & Solar Eclipse itinerary departs Dundee on July 27, 2027, on board Ambition.
The cruise heads for Portugal and the Mediterranean, arriving in Gibraltar on August 2, the day of the total solar eclipse. On the day of the eclipse, guests will be able to watch daylight gradually fade and reveal the sun’s corona at around 10.45am from the open top deck of the cruise ship.
Passengers will be able to experience the event for almost four and a half minutes in Gibraltar, making it the longest total solar eclipse visible anywhere on earth between 2009 and 2114.
After the eclipse, the ship will call at Almeria, Alicante, Valencia and Ibiza before visiting Cadiz. A final call at Vigo, gateway to Santiago de Compostela, follows on the return leg before the cruise arrives back in Dundee on August 15.
Bob McGowan, chief experience officer, said further details of the special cruise would be revealed in the weeks and months ahead.
He said: “This week has shown just how special an eclipse cruise can be. Across the Ambassador Group, we had three ships in three very different locations, all giving our guests the opportunity to share the same extraordinary natural event with friends old and new.
“Experiencing a total solar eclipse is something that features on many people’s bucket lists, so we are delighted to be doing it all over again in 2027.”
Ambassador Fares, which include the top Expedition Drinks Package, start from £3,775 based on two people sharing an inside cabin, while saver fares start from £2,969, also based on two sharing an inside cabin.
