If you’re looking for the perfect movie night at home, The Edge of Love has enough romance and drama to keep you hooked while munching your popcorn on the sofa. Starring Cillian Murphy and Keira Knightley, the drama focuses on the messy personal life of acclaimed poet Dylan Thomas.
Set during the London Blitz, the film follows Vera Phillips (Knightley), a nightclub singer who becomes reacquainted with her first love Thomas (played by Widow’s Bay star Matthew Rhys), who is now married to Caitlin (played by Sienna Miller), with whom he has a son.
Murphy stars as Vera’s other love interest William Killick, who is soon called up to fight in World War II. The film explores the friendship between Vera and Caitlin as well as the complicated romantic web between the two couples.

While the film wasn’t a huge hit at the box office it has found its fans, with one IMDb viewer calling it “a classic war-time tale of love, loss, happiness and tragedy”, and adding that it is “a perfect film for a night in”.

What did the critics say about The Edge of Love?
The Edge of Love wasn’t acclaimed by critics upon its release in 2008 but they did find plenty to praise, with The Australian calling it “an intense and strangely beautiful film”.
Film-Forward.com wrote: “Though very uneven in style and focus… the fraught complications among the foursome raise universal issues of freewheeling young love and friendship during wartime.”
The Hollywood Reporter found that The Edge of Love “succeeds as a deeply involving study of men and women caught up in a whirlwind beyond their control”.
