The new Winton Health Centre on Alma Road in Bournemouth was officially opened on August 18 after a £1.9 million investment from the NHS.
The centre has been transformed through a partnership between Banks and Bearwood Medical Practice, Dorset HealthCare, and NHS Dorset and is housed in a building owned by BCP Council.
The centre, which was previously closed in 2023, now offers GP services and a wide range of community health services delivered by Dorset HealthCare, including paediatric services, children’s speech and language therapy, podiatry, leg ulcer clinics, community oncology, heart failure clinics, health visiting, and NHS talking therapies for mental health.
Cllr Simon Bull, who represents Winton, said: “I am really delighted that the Winton Health Centre has been rejuvenated into a modern, usable space at the heart of the community.
“The services that are going in are much needed and will make a big difference to residents lives in Winton now and in the future.”
Cllr David Brown, BCP Council’s portfolio holder for adult social care and chair of the Health and Wellbeing Board, said: “A lot of work has been done by the council’s estate teams to make sure the building is can be upgraded to provide the best facilities for the people in Winton and surrounding areas.
“I am really proud of the work that has been done to support our health partners.”
Jessica Toale, MP for Bournemouth West, said: “I’m delighted that Winton Health Centre is back open to the public.
“It was something that I heard about from so many residents that it was a shame when it closed in 2023.
“I made a promise at the last election to get the centre back open.
“It’s been fantastic working with Banks and Bearwood, NHS Dorset, and NHS England and all the contractors to get the space back open.
“This centre brings together a lot of services that will make accessing healthcare people need the most much easier.”
The first patients for the GP practice will be seen from September 1, with additional community services launching soon after.
