The proposal would see Unit 10 in Ampress Lane, Lymington transformed to provide the simulator to golf fans and members of the public.

Applicant Mr Savin has asked for a lawful development certificate, and said the unit was originally approved as part of a wider development for business, industrial and storage uses.

This was approved under planning permissions dating back to 2001 and 2004.

The application said the unit is now covered by the same broad planning category as gyms, leisure venues and other commercial services.

Mr Savin added that the proposed golf simulator use falls within that category, meaning it “does not need separate planning permission for a change of use.”

The applicant said: “The use of the unit to provide a golf simulator to members of the public is considered to be an indoor sport, recreation or fitness service.”

Mr Savin also said that there are no planning conditions restricting the unit’s use, meaning the proposed switch would not amount to a material change of use requiring planning permission.

No building works are proposed as part of the application, which has been submitted as a permanent use.

However, the application does not state how many golf bays, simulators, customer spaces, or staff would be involved.

The plans were submitted to New Forest District Council on August 18, and council officers will now determine whether the proposed use is lawful in planning terms.

A decision date is yet to be set.
