Cast your mind back a good 12 years and Dominic West and Ruth Wilson never made cheating look more appealing than they did in The Affair. Of course, as with many affairs (mild spoiler alert), it all fell to pieces. But the five-series drama was a wild, spicy ride through a tangle of troubled marriages.

Viewers, we are happy to inform you that another Dominic West character is at it again. In the upcoming divorce drama War, West plays Morgan Henderson, a philandering Big Tech husband married to Sienna Miller’s film star Carla Duvall, whose cheating is exposed.

Written by Lupin’s George Kay, the eight-part series is described as a “bold legal drama about the divorce of the century”. Here’s everything else you need to know:

What’s the big idea?

Set in London’s legal world, War follows two prestigious law firms, Cathcarts & Sons and Taylor & Byrne, as they go head to head over a high-profile case, with some dubious ethical practices along the way. At the centre is a dirty-tricks divorce between Morgan (West) and Carla (Miller), which draws in ambitious young lawyer Johnny Warren (Archie Renaux). We’re told to expect a “ruthless world” where “ambition is currency, betrayal is strategy and winning is everything”.

Alongside West and Miller, who else is in the cast?

The leads are cast as a warring, manipulative married couple, and the supporting cast is equally impressive.

Across the two rival firms, there’s a whole army of legal bods: Phoebe Fox as Serena Byrne and James McArdle as Nicholas Taylor, partners in life and business at Taylor & Byrne; Nina Sosanya as Beatrice “Queen Bea” Ubosi and Pip Torrens as St John Smallwood, their counterparts and fierce rivals at Cathcarts & Sons.

Also appearing are the ever-brilliant Celia Imrie, Nick Mohammed, Emma Laird, Aran Murphy, Archie Panjabi, Adrian Scarborough, Shaheen Jafargholi, Akiya Henry, Honor Swinton Byrne, Miles Jupp, Kartanya Maynard, Alexandra Mardell, Dylan Murphy, Mark Quartley and Steve Furst.

When does War hit the screen?

War starts on Sky Atlantic on Friday 4 October.

And what’s this about War 2?

Yes, unusually for a new drama, the second series has already been written, cast and filmed. War 2 will focus on an “explosive defamation case” and feature an entirely new set of characters, led by Marisa Tomei, Kelly Macdonald and David Harewood. The cast also includes Claire Skinner, Omari Douglas, Kadiff Kirwan, Douglas Booth, Charles Edwards, Luca Pasqualino, Rebecca Front, Alexandra Maria Lara, Linus Roache, Violet Braeckman, Sasha Behar, Sid Phoenix, Cornelius Booth and Megan Channell.
