NHS bosses are asking a developer for extra funding to improve existing healthcare services if plans for 250 new homes go ahead.
The NHS Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board (LICB) has lodged its response to Broadgate Homes’ planning application for the news homes on land off Holland Park, Spalding — and has called for £216,706 to help cope with the extra demand on the town’s GP services.

The properties would be built near Meadow Way and Hawthorn Bank to complete the residential extension of the area, which could see up to 7,000 new homes built and a 6.5km relief road if funding is secured.
However, the LICB is concerned about the additional pressure that would be placed on existing GP provision within the development’s catchment area, which currently includes Beechfield Medical Centre and Munro Medical Centre.
It calculated that the extra 250 properties would increase the patient population by 552.

“This development would put additional demands on the existing GP services for the area and additional infrastructure would be required to meet the increased demands,” the board said in a comment submitted to the planning portal.

The board is calling for the developer to put extra funding either towards existing healthcare facilities within the catchment area or further afield to help meet the demand from an increased population.

It wants the healthcare contribution to be paid once 50 per cent of the homes in each phase of the development have been completed.
Receiving the funding at this stage would allow GP practices to expand before all the new residents move in, helping to prevent services from becoming overstretched.
