Super League round 24 was an explosive one with red cards shown, hat-tricks scored and drop goal drama, and it’s now time to pick the team of the week.

The action started on Friday when Wigan Warriors saw off Wakefield whilst Leigh Leopards battered Bradford in the other game that evening as Adam Cook scored an incredible 30 points in that 62-10 rout.

Saturday saw Saints dispatch Castleford but the Red Vee also ended the game with just 10 men after a red card and two late sin bins, though the bigger news that day was Hull KR being beaten by Toulouse – a result that has pumped more air in St Helens’ play-off hopes.

Hull FC then came from behind to beat Catalans thanks to a Jake Arthur drop goal in the evening game before Sunday’s action rounded the week off. Warrington won their fourth game in 15 days and Leeds rivalled Leigh as they put up 66 points against York.

We’ve picked out the standout performances from those games and it’s fair to say that some men have been unfortunate to miss out.

Super League Round 24 Team of the Week

Full-back: Tristan Sailor (St Helens)

Tristan Sailor showed what he could do last week and he backed it up again with another very strong performance at full-back, registering one try, one assist, and running for 218 metres as he continues to stake his claim for the number one shirt in 2027.

Winger: Riley Lumb (Leeds Rhinos)

On just his fourth Super League appearance of the season, Riley Lumb snatched his opportunity and bagged a hat-trick with the winger also making 166 metres. He scored the Rhinos’ opening two tries and could have landed the third but chose wisely to pass inside and register an assist.

Centre: Jack Welsby (St Helens)

The questions around Sailor at full-back has been what do you do with Jack Welsby? Based on Saturday, a run at centre wouldn’t be a bad shout as he posted eerily similar numbers to Sailor, recording a try, an assist and 222 metres.

Centre: Romeo Tropis (Toulouse Olympique)

Welsby’s 222 metres fall short of Romeo Tropis’ monstrous 259, many of which came on his incredible breakaway try as Toulouse went from back to front to shock Hull KR. The young centre also picked up another try to cap off what has been a very strong run of form.

Winger: Liam Marshall (Wigan Warriors)

Marshall has missed long periods of the season but he’s back at the business end and showing why he’s so valuable, with metres out of backfield and a brace on Friday night.

Half-back: George Williams (Warrington Wolves)

Williams truly announced his return against Hull KR on Tuesday but he backed it up superbly on Sunday, running for a whopping 228 metres whilst also scoring a try. Any debate about England’s six for the World Cup is irrelevant now that Williams is back.

Half-back: Adam Cook (Leigh Leopards)

Cook has been criticised for his kicking at times but he registered a perfect 11 from 11 on Friday, whilst also scoring two tries. That took his points tally to 30, the most of any Leigh player in a single Super League game and that record means he just edges out honourable mention Lachlan Lam [two tries, two assists and 171 metres].

Prop: Joe Ofahengaue (Leigh Leopards) 

Another of Leigh’s try scorers and arguably the best prop in Super League, Joe Ofahengaue made a dent in Bradford’s pack as he ran for 147 metres in another dominant performance.

Hooker: Brad O’Neill (Wigan Warriors)

Like Williams has proven himself a shoo in for the six shirt, Brad O’Neill should be a lock at hooker with the Wigan man continuing to showcase his talent. A huge 46 tackles is the headline here but his game is just so polished as well.

Prop: Harvie Hill (Hull FC)

The sole Hull FC inclusion and it goes to Harvie Hill who did make 27 tackles and register two offloads but he’s in here for his outrageous try. The prop broke the line and was running free at Charlie Staines with support on his left before he threw an audacious dummy that any half would be proud of, as he danced through under the sticks. Sublime.

Second row: James Bentley (Warrington Wolves)

Ever since the announcement that he will be signing for Bradford Bulls next year, James Bentley seems to have taken a step up. He’d record his second try in as many games and was all over the field as he racked up 37 tackles.

Second row: Chris Hankinson (Leeds Rhinos) 

Perhaps cheating here as he did move into the halves when Jake Connor went off but that was late on and Hankinson had already put in a stellar knock, registering two tries, one assist, and continuing to prove that he’s one of the competition’s most underrated players.

Loose forward: Harry Rushton (Huddersfield Giants)

It was a losing effort but it was some effort from Harry Rushton, who is unearthing the form that saw him land an NRL deal at such a young age. The loose forward made almost 120 metres as well as 47 tackles in a true captain’s knock.
