Staff at the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston have turned part of Ward 12, which cares for older patients, into a tuck shop to help patients stay both mentally and physically active.
The shop, which offers sweet treats such as fruit drinks, custard pots and snacks, is designed to support patients with cognitive impairments by providing mental stimulation and encouraging gentle movement.

Patients are invited to walk to the shop with support from staff and then can choose their snacks and place them in a basket or bag, helping to recreate the experience of visiting a real store.
The shop – officially opened earlier this week by patient Malcolm ‘Eddie’ Edmonds – was created with support from Morgan Sindall Construction and Sothams Engineering Services Ltd, who funded the structure.

The hospital’s catering team and ward staff helped stock the shelves through fundraising efforts.
