Katie Taylor is the only female boxer with a resume comparable to Claressa Shields, but she doesn’t get the same attention in the United States.

On September 5 that could change. It’s not because Taylor will be trying to become the first fighter to ever become a three-time undisputed champion in the United States; Taylor will attempt to accomplish the goal at Croke Park in her native Ireland. American fans will have no other choice than to pay attention because Taylor’s battle with Flora Pili on Saturday will be the legend’s final fight and it happens on a day when women’s boxing will take center stage. Let’s talk boxing.

Croke Park sold out in minutes on general sale in June. A win makes Taylor undisputed at 140 for a second time and a three-time undisputed champion across two weight divisions. Shields remains the only fighter to go undisputed in three weight classes. Pili is 12-0 and the IBF’s mandatory challenger, so this is no farewell tune-up.

Taylor, 40, has made it clear, this will be her last fight. She’s not interested in one more fight or being talked into continuing her career beyond the bout with Pili. Quite frankly — especially if she wins — there’s really nothing left for her to accomplish in the sport. Her resume is nearly unblemished and she’s sold out a football stadium. Her legacy couldn’t be any more secure.
