Leigh Leopards have picked up some minor knocks after last night’s loss to Huddersfield Giants, Adrian Lam has confirmed.

The Leopards, who didn’t see any players leave the field through injury, did acquire some “niggly injuries”, but the knocks aren’t too much of a concern for Lam as it stands.

Both Umyla Hanley and Josh Charnley are the duo in question, with the centre and wing pair both visibly not looking 100% throughout the game.

Hanley has had a torrid year with injury, and will be hoping to stay fit for the remainder of the year, having been included in Brian McDermott’s England performance squad earlier this month.

Charnley missed the defeat to Wigan a few weeks ago, and has been struggling with some soft tissue injuries as of late.

Lam has explained how he expects both men to be fit for next week’s game against St Helens, in what looks to be a crucial game that will have a large effect on who finishes where in the final standings.

Leigh Leopards boss offers David Armstrong update after missing Huddersfield defeat

One man named in this week’s 21 but not the 17 was full-back David Armstrong, who Lam confirmed was a doubt going into the game having suffered a knock in last week’s win over Bradford.

Armstrong left the field at half-time in that game, and didn’t return. Lam confirmed that they opted not to risk the Australian for this game, given the blow is regarding scar tissue on the ACL injury he had last season.

“Davey Armstrong might be back for [St Helens], which will be handy.

“…I didn’t consider him, really. Maybe at a pinch, if it was a final, he probably could have, but he’ll more than likely be there or thereabouts next week.”

Stepping up in his place was Gareth O’Brien, who had an underwhelming display in what was a milestone game for the 34-year-old.

“It was Gaz O’Brien’s 350th career game, so it didn’t go the way that we wanted for Gaz, but what an honour to be a part of that. A great milestone for him and the club.”
