For too long British politics has overseen rising regional inequality and falling living standards, and with his promise of ‘growth in every postcode’, I think Andy Burnham is right to try and fix this.

However, no other policy offers a surer way to grow the North West’s economy than EU membership.

Analysis by Frontier Economics, published by Best for Britain, shows that membership could boost our region’s economy by at least £658 million each year.

Manufacturing sees the most benefit – from automotive engineers in Halewood, to food processors in Trafford Park, EU membership could transform industry in the North West.

If Burnham is serious about regional growth and re-industrialisation, I believe he will find no better opportunity.
