A new documentary from Arte TRACKS examines who owns Europe’s festivals and venues, and what increasing consolidation means for the live music sector.
The film focuses on four major promoter groups—Live Nation, CTS Eventim, AEG and Superstruct Entertainment—which collectively control more than 200 festivals and over 100 venues across Europe. It also examines KKR’s 2024 acquisition of Superstruct and the subsequent fallout.
CTM Festival curator Michail Stangl and Erica Romero Pender of Live DMA discuss the risks of market concentration, including reduced competition, rising ticket prices and the potential erosion of independent festival culture. Meanwhile DJ AYA talks about the implications of the boycott campaign against Superstruct-owned events.
