Castleford Tigers have confirmed that forward Sam Hall will leave the club at the end of the season, whilst the club have also issued a statement to address the power outage at Friday night’s centenary celebration game.

The Tigers hosted Catalans Dragons on Friday night in a game built up to celebrate 100 years of Castleford Tigers, however, it was a celebration that couldn’t have gone more wrong.

Trailing 16-6 approaching the hour mark, the power went out at Wheldon Road and led to a 35-minute delay, after which Castleford shipped 18 points as they collapsed in the final quarter of the game, ending their home campaign in miserable fashion with a 34-6 defeat.

The club have now moved to clarify why the power went out, putting the incident down to an issue with their electricity provider, rather than an issue with their own electrical systems.

They said: “As we are all aware, during our Centenary game against the Catalan Dragons on Friday night, our stadium lights and other areas of our electrical systems failed.

“Contrary to the rumours there was no problem with the floodlights or our electrical systems, the failure was the result of an electrical fault caused by the electricity provider.”

The statement also confirmed that their staff have worked across the weekend to repair damages caused by the fault, with the stadium now back to full power though there are plans for upgrades in the off-season.

Castleford Tigers confirm exit of homegrown forward

As well as that statement on Sunday afternoon, the Tigers also confirmed that forward Sam Hall would leave the club at the end of the year.

It’s been confirmed that Hall, who has made 71 appearances for the Tigers including 19 in 2026, will join Toulouse Olympique for 2027.

The 24-year-old had debuted for Castleford back in 2020 as an 18-year-old but only started to forge a key role come 2023, playing 15 or more games in each of the last four seasons.

Despite that, he will leave at the end of the season with a club statement on X announcing his departure.

That read: “Castleford Tigers can confirm that forward Sam Hall will depart the club at the end of the 2026 Betfred Super League season to take up a contract with Toulouse Olympique.

“We’d like to thank Sam for all his efforts in the black and amber and wish him all the best for the future.”
