This is the amazing new street art that has just been created in York.
It’s on Lowther Street in The Groves and it’s been created by renowned York street artist Tom Sledmore.
Tom was commissioned by Door 84 Youth and Community Centre to created the mural. It was funded with a grant through the York and North Yorkshire Mayor’s Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund.

Now based in Bristol, Tom – better known as the artist Sled One – has worked on commissions nationally and internationally.
But he was delighted to be back in his home city to create this work of art.
He told YorkMix: “I’m really pleased with it. It’s very rare that I spend over a week painting a wall, but I think it’s definitely necessary for how much detail I’ve got in there.
“Almost everyone that comes past is really positive.”
Tom took inspiration from meetings with local residents before creating the piece, which combines both monotone and full colour elements.
“I wanted the black and white bit to look a little bit like 1920s cartoons,” Tom said.
“It’s like the transition from the realistic into the more cartoony version. It’s the first time I’ve done this style, where I’ve transitioned it from black and white into colour, but I think it’s kind of a winner.”
We spoke to Groves resident Martin, who was impressed. “It’s very good. I think it’ll open people’s minds in this area to what’s going on – the history.”
