Hovland began the day with a three shot lead over Scheffler, but he struggled to a 72, while the American carded a superb final-round 66.
The world number one now has 22 PGA Tour wins to his name since February 2022, and he has been the dominant figure in the professional game ever since then.
Scottie Scheffler lost out to Viktor Hovland at the Travelers Championship back in June, but he got his revenge on the Norwegian at the Tour Championship on Sunday.

Hovland praised Scheffler to the hilt after his Tour Championship win, and it’s no wonder why given the quality of golf that the American produced on Sunday at East Lake.
Not only is he the best golfer in the world, but his clarity of thought under the most intense pressure is what separates him even further from the rest.
What Scottie Scheffler noticed about Viktor Hovland on the 18th at East Lake
The now 22-time PGA Tour winner addressed the media at East Lake after his impressive Tour Championship victory.
Scheffler responded when asked by one journalist whether he was aware of his standing in the tournament when he was standing over his birdie putt on the 18th green.
“I was trying to make birdie on 18 basically up until the putt,“ the world number one admitted.

“I hit it barely in the right rough, and it was a shot I maybe could have gotten over the hazard, but in my practice round I actually hit the ball basically in the same spot, and Teddy and I were like, ‘oh, let’s just try it out now’. I tried to hit 5-wood out, and I hit it in the water.

“That’s the absolute last thing I wanted to do. I wanted to give myself a chance to make birdie but make par at the worst. Missing on the right side there is challenging, but missing in the right rough — hit a really good layup. The layup is actually a really hard shot. Hit a good layup to get there in the fairway and a really great wedge shot.
“It was a hard wedge shot, hanging lie, left pin. I’m taking some off of a wedge pretty much straight into the wind. It was probably a harder shot than it looked like on TV. Hit it the way I wanted to, gave myself a look, and as I was reading my putt, I saw that Viktor had bogeyed 17. Made my putt a little bit more defensive than I think it would have been if he had parred 17 or even birdied 17.
“Three shots on 18 is a lot different than two. Eagle is pretty possible on that hole. Double eagle would be pretty crazy.“
Jack Nicklaus highlighted Scottie Scheffler’s awareness during tournaments
Back in June 2025, Jack Nicklaus absolutely raved about Scheffler’s uncanny ability to know exactly where he stands during tournaments at all times.
“I always was a — I just asked Scottie if he watched the leaderboard. He says, ‘Yeah, I do’. Well, I did too,“ Nicklaus said.
“I always watched the leaderboard and found out what my competition was and always felt like what level I had to play to fight that competition off. Sometimes you wouldn’t have to fight it off because you knew they would self-destruct.
“So, obviously, you just don’t make dumb mistakes, play solid golf, and you win. He is such a good player, and he drove the ball beautifully today. Like he said, he drove the ball, but he never put himself in jeopardy.
“He didn’t put himself in a position to lose the golf tournament. He was always in a position to win. And if he had to do something more spectacular, he was in a position to do so. But he didn’t have to.“
