Emmerdale has announced DS Ramsden’s future on the soap, following tonight’s shocking revelation. After weeks of mystery, the detective’s vendetta against Kim Tate was finally explained.
In the final moments of the episode, viewers were taken back in time to see a young Kim, who had just given birth to a baby girl. Kim decided to name the baby Anthea, before giving her up for adoption.

The scene then switched to present day, focusing in on DS Thea Ramsden‘s police name badge. It was confirmed that Thea is Kim’s biological daughter, explaining her ruthless vendetta against the matriarch. But what exactly does she want from Kim?
“I have loved joining Emmerdale and keeping this secret,” said Chelsea Edge, who plays DS Ramsden. “I think it became apparent fairly quickly to the viewers that DS Ramsden and Serena already knew each other from their work in the police, but little did they know that was just the tip of the iceberg.
While viewers now know the truth about Thea’s identity, her long term game plan is yet to be revealed. Edge teased that her character’s “determination and bitterness” will continue to develop in the coming weeks.
She added: “It’s clear she’s very keen to understand why Kim, who seemingly has everything, status, wealth and power to give her away all those years ago. As to how far the apple falls from the tree… I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but there’s certainly a lot more drama to come.”

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw explained how the story will tie in to Joe Tate’s decision to give up his own baby, following Dawn Fletcher’s death. Will Thea soften when she sees Kim trying to stop Joe’s adoption plans?
“While the viewers have been granted access to the mystery surrounding DS Ramsden’s true identity, it will be some time before Kim suspects that the child she surrendered is operating within her immediate circle,” said Shaw.
“As Kim desperately tries to prevent Joe Tate from proceeding with Baby Tate’s adoption, the painful recollection of giving up her own baby remains vividly present. She is completely unaware that the daughter she left behind is actually right under her nose.”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
