It’s set to be a big weekend for Casualty, with the BBC’s beloved medical drama celebrating its 40th anniversary. As part of the occasion, fans are getting a special double bill, and it’s set to be dramatic.
One facet of the new episodes is the strained relationship between Stevie Nash and Dylan Keogh, with the pair having been at loggerheads since it was revealed that Stevie had been having a fling with Dylan’s son Matty.

Dylan subsequently reported Stevie for misconduct, with the duo yet to repair their bond. Fans are hoping that they could patch things up, and they just might get their wish during the anniversary episodes.
“Dylan and Stevie have been set off on tangents and into places where they didn’t expect to go,” explains Elinor Lawless, who plays Stevie, in an exclusive chat with Digital Spy. “There’s definitely a sense of trying to get back to something, which the audience will hopefully see and feel.”
“They’re aware of each other throughout,” added William Beck, who portrays Dylan. “When Stevie goes AWOL and runs away from the trouble, and Dylan has to pick up the pieces, in the backs of their minds they trust that the other has made the right decision.
“They may also believe and are quite right in saying that they haven’t. But something about the symmetry or the symbiosis of their personalities, while there isn’t a great deal of it on-screen, is great fun to play.”
While it remains to be seen how Stevie and Dylan’s relationship will develop, series producer Liza Mellody recently shared their thoughts as to why the medical drama had remained popular over the years.

“Our characters are human – they are flawed but they do the best they can with what they have,” they said. “We are telling human stories through the lens of medicine, adrenaline, warmth, joy, pain and ultimately hope.”
“We are a drama, but we have a huge medical team advising on the show, so what we portray is authentic with a twist of dramatic licence,” they added, before dubbing the series a “marvellous concoction for Saturday night viewing”.
Casualty airs on Saturday nights on BBC One and now streams first on BBC iPlayer, where episodes are released at 6am on the day of transmission. The show’s 40th anniversary double bill airs on Saturday 5 September on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
