Prime Video/MGM+’s Spider-Noir starring Nicolas Cage has been canceled after one season, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The series, which marked Cage’s first regular TV role, debuted on the streamer in May with eight episodes. Despite positive reviews — including a 92 percent critics score and 90 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes — as well as 11 Emmy nominations, the most of any Prime Video series this year, Spider-Noir will not return for a second season.
Here is the official logline: “Spider-Noir tells the story of Ben Reilly (Cage), a seasoned, down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life following a deeply personal tragedy, as the city’s one and only superhero.”
Spider-Noir was the first chapter in Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios’ ongoing efforts to expand stories within Sony Pictures’ universe of Marvel characters.
Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston and Brendan Gleeson rounded out the cast. Guest stars included Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, Andrew Robinson and Kai Caster.
Oren Uziel (The Lost City, 22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel’s The Punisher, Shantaram) served as co-showrunners and executive producers. Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve) directed and executive produced the first two episodes.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller executive produced for Lord Miller, alongside Aditya Sood and Dan Shear. Amy Pascal executive produced for Pascal Pictures. Cage and Pavlina Hatoupis also served as executive producers.
