Huddersfield Giants have confirmed that co-captain and star man Harry Rushton has committed to the club until the end of 2030

Rushton, who still had another year left on his contract, has put pen to paper on a new deal after showing some incredible form in recent weeks.

The former Wigan man would have hit the open market on December 1 had an extension not been completed, so the move highlights Huddersfield’s keenness to keep him at the club.

In post-match press conferences, boss Jim Lenihan has been asked numerous times about Rushton’s importance to the team, with the head coach often saying he is a man that they can build the team around.

The fact that he secured a deal with the Canberra Raiders so early in his career shows his potential, and whilst the move to Australia didn’t fully work out, he is all the better for it, and that is showing in abundance now.

Rushton’s new contract doesn’t change anything in terms of the group of Giants players still without a club for next season. The likes of Adam Clune, Tui Lolohea, Jacob Gagai and Adam Swift are all waiting to have their futures confirmed, be that in West Yorkshire or elsewhere.

Commenting on his new contract, the 24-year-old said: “I’m really happy. The club is going in the right direction as we’ve seen at the back end of this year, so I’m really excited for the next four years.

“First and foremost, we’ve got a really good playing group, and Jim too, he’s been brilliant. The move to Dewsbury is really exciting, and it’s something I want to be a part of.”

Boss Lenihan added: ” [Rushton is] massively pivotal to our squad. He’s embraced the physicality and how we want to play, and while Cluney was injured, he’s really stepped into that leadership role and been influential to the lads.

“He’s shown he can step into that captain’s role and lead our squad, our forward pack, and be an example to the rest of the team. He’s still young, so he can get even better, and this is extremely exciting for the club and the team.”
