Modern Family has stood the test of time as many people’s go-to comedy rewatch and continues to gain new new viewers years after its final episode, so fans of the series will be excited to learn that some of the team behind the show are tackling a brand new sitcom – and it will be familiar to UK comedy fans.
It’s been announced that Modern Family co-creator and executive producer Christopher Lloyd is teaming up with its writer and executive producer Danny Zuker for a remake of the BBC’s Mammoth on Fox.
The original BBC series was initially commissioned by BBC Wales and premiered in 2024, with a third season confirmed earlier this year. The series is created and written by Mike Bubbins, who also leads the cast as Tony Mammoth.
Presumed dead in an Alpine avalanche in 1979, Tony’s discovered and brought back to life in the present day but is determined to continue to live his life as a man from the ’70s.
And it seems like the new US iteration of the series will be sticking pretty closely to the source material, with a slight change in timeline.

As per the new Fox series synopsis, the comedy “follows Coach Tony Mammoth, a larger-than-life high school gym teacher whose life is put on ice in 1983 when he’s buried in a freak ski avalanche. Forty years later, he thaws out to a world that has completely changed… but he’s convinced it really didn’t need to.
“Still clinging to life in the ‘80s – complete with his Burt Reynolds moustache and treasured Trans-AM – Mammoth returns to the job he loves, only to discover that today’s rules, relationships, and realities bear little resemblance to the world he once knew.”
On the announcement of the series, Lloyd said: “Tony Mammoth genuinely believes he mastered manhood the first time around, making his new reality the ultimate wake-up call and greatest challenge in an otherwise flawless life. He’s charming, wildly self-assured, hopelessly out of step and, despite his many blind spots, impossible not to root for.”

Similarly, Zuker added: “Tony gets the second chance so many people wish for, only to find that his bravado doesn’t quite match his new reality. We love his shameless confidence, his fascination with a world he barely recognises, and the big heart underneath it all. He’s a lot. We can’t wait to bring him to Fox.”
The show will stand as Fox’s first live-action comedy series in over two years and with the likes of Lloyd and Zuker onboard, expectations are high. While a release date hasn’t yet been confirmed, it has been announced that Mammoth will be airing during Fox’s 2027-2028 season.
