Lucas Bergvall was not included in Tottenham’s Premier League squad and did not make it onto the pitch for his side’s clash against Nottingham Forest. However, that doesn’t mean that the Swede is completely outside of Roberto De Zerbi’s plans.
Bergvall started the match against Brentford but has not appeared again in the league after being replaced at half-time of that game. The 20-year-old was in the Lilywhites’ squad against Forest, despite not being in De Zerbi’s 25-man list submitted to the Premier League.
Premier League sides can name 25 players, up to 17 of which can be non-homegrown. However, Bergvall can be included on another list which has no limit.

Players who are under the age of 21 do not count towards the 25-man squad limit. For this season, players born on or after January 1, 2005 qualify for that.
Bergvall is not the only player not to have been named in the official squad. Archie Gray and Mathys Tel also did not need to be submitted to the Premier League.
While Bergvall appeared to be pushing for a transfer early in the summer, De Zerbi confirmed before the transfer window shut that he would remain in north London.

“Lucas Bergvall, 100 per cent [he is staying],” he said. “We spoke a lot in pre-season. He’s a top player, a top potential player. I like that he stays but I think now he wants to stay and we have no problem.”
The young midfielder was linked to Newcastle and Chelsea over the summer, but Bergvall’s decision to stay was made early in the window, according to his Italian boss.
“After 10 days in the pre-season, Lucas came and his agent as well went to Johan Lange to say, ‘Lucas is happy to stay,’ and Lucas showed me he wanted to stay.
“I would like to play with him, I would like to put the focus on him because he is another big, big in terms of the potential of the player. He is another big player.”
