Jay Pitts makes career call following Wakefield Trinity release

Jay Pitts has opted to call time on his career, following the confirmation of his release from Wakefield Trinity.

Pitts was one of nine names on Trinity’s departure list, which was revealed a week ago. He joined the likes of Mason Lino, Lachlan Walmsley and Noah High in departing Belle Vue, though his inclusion was the most surprising given he still had a year left on his current deal.

The loose forward, who will turn 37 in December, has been an incredible servant to both the sport and Wakefield, and after coming through the ranks at Trinity, has gone on to make over 190 appearances for the club across two spells.

His career began in 2008, as a fresh-faced 18-year-old made his debut in an 8-4 defeat to Wigan Warriors. He would get over for his first career try later that year, also against Wigan, also in defeat.

Moving to Leeds Rhinos in 2009, he played 27 times in Blue and Amber before a switch to Hull FC came around in 2012. After 53 games for the club, he moved to Bradford Bulls, where he lasted three seasons.

A switch to London Broncos came in 2017, and after guiding them to Super League in 2019, was one of their most consistent players that campaign.

Upon their relegation back to the second tier, a return to Wakefield came up, and he took it with both hands. Pitts has been at Belle Vue ever since, and will go down as one of Trinity’s modern day greats.
