The Team of the Week is in after Round 26 of Super League, and again it’s Wigan Warriors who dominate after their 15th consecutive win!

The Warriors climbed to the top of the table after an astounding 40-8 victory over Leeds Rhinos, and they now have one hand on the League Leaders’ Shield. To secure that, they must avoid defeat to Catalans Dragons at home next week.

The round commenced at Odsal on Thursday evening, with Bradford Bulls making their final home game of 2026 a winning one as they toppled a woeful Castleford Tigers side.

Toulouse Olympique raced into a 30-0 half-time lead against Hull FC in a performance Andy Last labelled the worst FC half of the season. The away side managed to pick themselves up in the second half, but would leave France as 44-30 losers.

Hull KR turned up the heat to defeat Huddersfield Giants on Friday, whilst Leigh Leopards strolled to victory with a win over St Helens, ending their hopes of a play-off spot.

Wakefield Trinity put one foot in a home play-off spot after victory over Warrington Wolves, whilst York Knights travelled to Perpignan and won, in what was their first win in five games.

Super League Round 26 Team of the Week

Full-back: Caleb Aekins (Bradford Bulls)

Most Read on Serious About Rugby League

This squad could just be 13 Wigan players, they played that well, and whilst there is a large proportion of the squad that are Warriors, credit needs to be paid elsewhere.

Aekins has been a consistent performer in an injury-hit season for the Bulls, and his efforts on Thursday included a huge 230 run metres and a try, with his four-pointer richly deserved given his efforts in a wet and windy Odsal battle.

Wingers: Tom Davies (Hull KR) and Austin Daniel (Wigan Warriors)

Davies was back to doing what he does best, and that is carrying the ball out of yardage and making some strong metres for the Robins. Taking in a huge 26 carries, the winger totalled 225 metres, and got on the scoresheet in another performance that shows he has been one of KR’s best this year.

The first of four Wigan players included is Daniel, who played only his fourth game at senior level and looked like he was one of the most experienced on the park. Catching tough kicks with ease, he carried out of backfield well, running for a total of 146m. At the other end of the pitch he scored and assisted, with his break down the flank setting up Adam Keighran’s first try.

Centres: Adam Keighran (Wigan Warriors) and Umyla Hanley (Leigh Leopards)

Speaking of Keighran, the Australian was very unlucky not to win the Man of the Match award after he scored 24 of Wigan’s 40 points. Crossing for a hat-trick and kicking six goals, the in-form centre was on fire at Headingley, and fully deserves to be in contention for the Super League Dream Team.

Another player eyeing up a Dream Team spot is Hanley, who scored twice in another well-rounded performance for the Leopards. His first try caused controversy, but that won’t matter to the England hopeful who also racked up 118 run metres.

Halves: Bevan French (Wigan Warriors) and Adam Cook (Leigh Leopards)

There isn’t enough superlatives in the world to describe Bevan French. He is a joy to watch every single week and continues to outdo himself, especially in the big games. Scoring one and assisting three more, his defensive work was just as good as his attack, with some of his 17 tackles coming on his own goal line.

When Adam Cook plays well, Leigh play well, and with five try contributions against the Saints, the ex-Canberra man ran the show at the LSV.

Props: Paul Vaughan (York Knights) and Ebon Scurr (Bradford Bulls)

The veteran prop scored the winner to secure York’s victory over Catalans, with his return being such a big boost for Mark Applegarth’s side.

Scurr was dubbed Man of the Match in the win over Castleford, and with a try, 38 tackles, no misses and 109 metres, it’s easy to see why.

Hooker: Jez Litten (Hull KR)

The rest for Litten last week worked wonders, with the England number nine scoring and assisting in the Huddersfield win.

Back Row: Henry O’Kane (Toulouse Olympique) and Isaiah Vagana (Wakefield Trinity)

Both men scored try doubles in their respective wins, with O’Kane also bagging an assist and making 33 tackles against Hull FC.

Vagana returned from a shoulder injury and looked like he hadn’t missed a beat, with his double coming at a key time in the match against Warrington, as he turned the scoreline from 14-6 in Wire’s favour to 18-14 in Wakefield’s.

Loose Forward: Kaide Ellis (Wigan Warriors)

Ellis received criticism earlier in the year for his efforts, but towards the back end of the year he has been in brilliant form, and showed it again at Headingley with 38 tackles, 0 misses, 20 carries and 164 run metres
