The 86-year-old has presented the popular BBC rural affairs show for 37 years, having started in 1989.
Prior to that, he had a 17-year stint on Newsround after originally launching it on the BBC back in 1972.
Away from TV, Mr Craven lives in a village near Banbury with his wife, where the couple brought up two daughters.
The veteran broadcaster has now been speaking as Countryfile announced the return of its annual fundraising special in support of BBC Children in Need.

Returning for a 12th year, The Countryfile Ramble for BBC Children in Need is scheduled to air on BBC One on Sunday, October 25.
The programme will see presenters Matt Baker, Anita Rani, Margherita Taylor, Joe Crowley and Mr Craven joined by five young people who have been supported by projects receiving Children in Need funding.
During the special, the group will take on a walking challenge through the Peak District while hearing first-hand about the experiences of the young people and the impact the support has had on their lives.
A synopsis for the programme states: “As they walk through the stunning Peak District, the young people will share their own inspirational stories and the challenges they have faced, showing how support from BBC Children in Need can help children and young people overcome obstacles, build confidence and look towards a brighter future.”
The announcement was made during Sunday’s edition of Countryfile, as Mr Craven told viewers: “It’s getting to that time of year again.

“BBC Children in Need wants to be by the side of every child who needs them most. Someone to listen, someone to support, and someone to stand alongside.”
As part of the programme, the presenters will visit the Hollowford Centre in the Peak District, where they will join young people for a range of activities and learn more about projects funded by the charity.
Speaking about the special, Mr Craven said: “What I love most about Countryfile Ramble is meeting remarkable children and young people and hearing their stories.
“This year, we’ll be shining a light on the incredible impact that support can have, and how having somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to can make a difference.
“Every child needs someone by their side, especially when times are tough. BBC Children in Need are working to make sure no child has to face life’s challenges alone.”
