In an exclusive interview with Far Out, Steven Knight has revealed the thing he found most surprising about working with Noel and Liam Gallagher on the Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger documentary.
The coveted writer swapped his Peaky Blinders cap for a bucket hat with his latest project, as he was tasked with writing the new documentary charting the Britpop band’s triumphant return.
In a new interview with Far Out, Knight reflected on his experience working closely with the famous Britpop brothers, whom he interviewed as part of the process.
“Very early on, somebody said, ‘If you have a meeting with them, they will be early,’” he revealed.
As evidenced by their keenness, he continued, “And they work really hard. You know, there’s all this stuff about rock and roll and all of that, but they work really hard and they will work until it’s right.”
Speaking to the huge success of both the documentary and the reunion tour, Knight added, “They were burning with desire to get this right, and they did.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Knight explained that he always intended for the immersive documentary to be “emotional”, as “this is about two people who were famously arranged do come back together in a time when the world is fractured.”
As such, Knight added that he “really wanted it to be a hopeful 1960s-style peace, love, and understanding message. And that’s what it turned out to be.”
In a separate interview with Far Out, directors Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern explained how the Gallagher brothers’ first joint interview in 20 years came about, adding that fans are likely to be “buzz off seeing them sitting down together and seeing how at ease with each other they are.”
