Leigh Leopards halfback Ben McNamara on player of the match appearance

Ben McNamara has completed a permanent transfer to Castleford Tigers following his initial loan spell from Leigh Leopards.

The half-back initially made the temporary switch to the OneBore Stadium in August alongside Keanan Brand for the remainder of the 2026 season. 

Having impressed during his short time with the West Yorkshire outfit, McNamara has now put pen to paper on a two-year deal to remain with the club.

He said:  “I spoke with the club earlier in the year and once I knew they were interested, I was keen to get something done early,

“I really like the set up here, everything is nice and close together. Everyone has been welcoming so I’m looking forward to making the move to Castleford full time.”

McNamara began his professional career with Hull FC, making his Super League debut in 2020 before moving on to Leigh Leopards ahead of the 2024 season. 

Castleford’s Director of Rugby Chris Chester also commented, adding: “Ben offers us some real versatility being able to play at both the nine position and in the halves,

Ben McNamara secures permanent Super League move to Castleford Tigers

Following stints with the Leopards and a brief loan spell with the Bradford Bulls earlier this year, the 24-year-old will now look to anchor down a long-term role within Castleford’s squad moving forward.

McNamara’s signature forms part of a broader, substantial roster overhaul at The OneBore Stadium as the Tigers prepare to reshape their squad ahead of the 2027 season. 

The club has moved extensively in the player market to secure a mix of international and domestic experience, headlined by incoming NRL arrivals Damien Cook, Mat Feagai, and Tyrell Sloan from the St George Illawarra Dragons, alongside established Super League figures like Robbie Mulhern and Mason Lino.
