Prince William was scheduled to host an event in Liverpool today—and Kate Middleton joined him in a surprise appearance. The royal couple were joined by leading figures in sport for an event on World Suicide Prevention Day about harnessing the power of sport to prevent suicide.
“The Prince will launch ‘On Your Side’, a first-of-its-kind toolkit to help organisations and individuals across sport build the knowledge, confidence and practical approaches needed to contribute meaningfully to suicide prevention,” the Royal Foundation said about the purpose of the day. The toolkit has been designed to “give people engaged in sport the confidence to spot warning signs, start conversations and connect individuals with support before a crisis occurs.” Kensington Palace released a short film this morning to coincide with the launch.

Kate stepped out in the same Edeline Lee suit she wore on an official visit to Italy earlier this year.
Both William and Kate wore blue suits for the occasion – his a dark blue and hers light. They arrived at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool, the home of Everton Football Club, at just after midday in the UK. They were joined at the event by British sporting heroes such as Dame Kelly Holmes, Jill Scott, and Sir Jason and Dame Laura Kenny.
The outing was the first joint official engagement by the Prince and Princess of Wales following their summer holidays. On Tuesday, they appeared publicly together to take 13-year-old Prince George to his first day at Eton College. Yesterday, William was in Oslo for the funeral of King Harald.

The working members of the royal family are continuing with their engagements as Harry and Meghan’s return to the UK threatens to revive old tensions. A public letter issued on behalf of King Charles earlier this week reminded government, military officials and the King’s representatives across the country that the Sussexes are not working royals.
Harry has been in contact with the King since his return around two weeks ago. However, there is understood to be no contact between William and Harry.
