In Swindon, a brick bus shelter in Haydon Wick has been transformed into a colourful space showcasing artwork from local schools, thanks to a project backed by Haydon Wick Council.

The idea, proposed by Councillor Vinay Manro and seconded by Swindon Borough Councillor Leanne Stevenson, aims to revamp shelters that have been repeatedly targeted by graffiti and vandalism.

Councillor Stevenson said: “Haydon Wick Council backed the idea unanimously.

“Now the first shelter is finished, and it is great to see the difference.

“We wanted to do something positive with these spaces.

“Add some colour, showcase artwork from our local schools and make the shelters feel more connected to the community around them.”

She expressed thanks to everyone involved.

Cllr Stevenson said: “A huge thank you to the schools who contributed, and to everyone who helped turn the idea into reality.

“This is only the start.

“We will use this model to look at what more we can do with bus shelters across Priory Vale and Haydon Wick.”
