Long past time for UK-EU membership conversation, TUC motion shows

Campaigners have urged the Prime Minister Andy Burnham to “rule nothing out”, echoing calls by the Trade Union Congress.

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) in Brighton has passed a motion brought by Prospect, which calls for the UK government to keep “no options off the table” on UK-EU relations. It also urges the Prime Minister and his cabinet to be “guided by the national interest, not by arbitrary red lines”.

Tom Brufatto, Executive Director of Policy and Research at Best for Britain, said:

“As polling and independent economic research both resoundingly demonstrate, it’s long past time for the UK to have a conversation about our EU membership, which voters have made clear they recognise is what is best for Britain, and expect politicians to deliver. 

“This TUC motion moves us closer towards that, and provides vital further evidence that Andy Burnham’s government should rule nothing out when it comes to the UK’s economic, security, cultural and political future in Europe.”
