Society Insider: Kim Crossman splits from husband Tom Walsh, prepares for life as single mum

A friend of Crossman says her main focus is providing for her daughter and stepping forward as a single mother.

Crossman, who first came to fame in Shortland Street in 2007 and has since starred in shows including Step Dave and Funny Girls, flew back to LA with Coco earlier this week.

She is understood to be working on a yet-to-be-announced role in a Hollywood soap opera, picking up work she began earlier in the year.

Crossman has an apartment in Santa Monica and splits her time between NZ and the US. She and Walsh took Coco to Los Angeles in February, with Walsh returning to Auckland in March, and Crossman following in April.

Society Insider revealed the pair were dating in November 2022. They’d met earlier that year shooting TVNZ 2’s Snack Masters NZ – Crossman was co-host alongside Tom Sainsbury, and Walsh was a camera operator on the show. He’s known to many Kiwis as the star of the famous Tip Top “togs, togs, undies” ad.

Things got serious when they worked and dated while filming a Discovery Shark Week production together, travelling through New Zealand, Australia, the US and Mexico.

In 2023 they split their time between Santa Monica and Auckland, where Walsh has a son from a previous relationship. That year they also travelled to Uganda with World Vision, and became engaged while on holiday in Italy. In November 2023 they suffered a miscarriage. Crossman shared their loss on social media and told the Herald she was reaching out to others who had been through baby loss themselves.

“I feel it’s important to educate myself more and provide help and resources to those who are also walking this path,” Crossman told the Herald.

After documenting their search for the perfect wedding location throughout New Zealand, the pair married in April 2024 on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, exchanging vows in front of close friends and family.

Coco arrived on December 6 last year. Before the Christmas holidays, Crossman told Society Insider that she, Walsh and Coco would spend Christmas in Pauanui with her extended family.

“All of our family are coming together; the power of a new baby is pretty magical – it feels like she is royalty,” she said.

Since Coco’s birth, Crossman has written a column called Pretty Postpartum on Capsule, regularly updating readers on her life as a mother, including a postpartum injury and the highs and lows of adjusting to motherhood.

In her column posted on Sunday, before she left for LA on Monday, Crossman wrote: “What on Earth did I do before you, my sweet girl? It’s like life before Coco was in black and white; it’s almost hard to remember or bring into focus.

“This has been one of the more challenging, anxious and stressful months of my life and also the most beautiful, encouraging and hopeful.”

She went on to write that she was navigating the new dynamic of being a single mum.
