The Angel in the House, a solo exhibition by Marian Obando, will open at the Andover venue on October 3.

The exhibition will be open from 11am to 4pm, Wednesday to Saturday, until October 31. Admission is free.

The exhibition explores how people remember others and how they relate to their memories, using animation, dance, and mixed media.

Ms Obando’s work is known for its experimental approach, and she uses a wide range of materials, including watercolour, charcoal, oil pastels, acrylic paint, and more, to create expressive moving images.

After completing an MA in Character Animation at Central Saint Martins, Ms Obando began exploring an experimental approach to animating fine art materials.

In 2025, she was awarded the Selector’s Prize in the Chapel Arts Studios Open Exhibition, which gave her the opportunity to present a solo exhibition at the gallery.

The Angel in the House is Ms Obando’s first solo exhibition.

The opening event on October 3 will feature live performances at 5.30pm by Oko Mar and Zuriel X.

Oko Mar, a duo composed of Franziska Böhm and Hannah Archambault, will perform Everything in between, a work exploring what is blurry, full of shades, doubt, and questions.

Zuriel X, a poet and multidisciplinary artist, will perform two poems, Bridge and My Spirit’s Healing.

On October 24, visitors can join Marian Obando and curator Fiona Cassidy for an artist talk from 3pm to 4pm.

The conversation will explore the ideas, processes, and inspirations behind The Angel in the House.

This will offer an opportunity to hear directly from Ms Obando about her experimental approach to animation and her exploration of memory, dreams, and the body.

Together, the exhibition, opening performances, and artist talk create a space for considering memory as both intimate and collective – something experienced through images, movement, sound, and the body.

The Angel in the House will run from October 3 to October 31, with the gallery open from Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 4pm.

The opening event will be on October 3, from 4pm to 6pm, with performances by Oko Mar and Zuriel X at 5.30pm.

The artist talk will be on October 24, from 3pm to 4pm, with Marian Obando and curator Fiona Cassidy.
