Jack Nicklaus designed the layout in North Carolina back in 2005 and now the PGA Tour is heading to the venue for the first time ever.
Nicklaus has built up a huge portfolio of golf course designs since he retired from playing, and The Cliffs at Walnut Cove is supposed to be one of his best.
Jack Nicklaus always designs his golf courses with the aim that poor shots are punished and good shots are rewarded.
And The Cliffs at Walnut Cove fits perfectly into that category.
Some PGA Tour players have already been speaking about the golf course ahead of the Biltmore Championship Asheville this week.
The golf course is a par-71 layout that measures just under 7,200 yards, making it relatively short for a PGA Tour event.
There should be plenty of low scores this week, and J.T. Poston, who won at Nicklaus’ course earlier this year at The Memorial, praised The Cliffs at Walnut Cove to the hilt.
Poston shared how Nicklaus’ design should be gettable this week.
“It’s great. I mean, after Memorial I’m a big fan of Nicklaus designs, so I think it’s a great track,“ Poston said.
“I think it’ll be pretty gettable this week if I were to guess. But you still have to hit really good golf shots and make some putts.
“I think it’s still a great test.“
Jacob Bridgeman is a huge fan of The Cliffs at Walnut Cove
Jacob Bridgeman echoed a similar sentiment to Poston when speaking to reporters in North Carolina on Wednesday.
“Yeah, I think what they’re known for is the best hospitality, that southern feel,“ he said.
“They’re going to take care of everybody. I think all the courses that they have, they have seven, they’re going to be in great shape.
“Really pretty views, a bunch of very nice homes, and just the people around should have a pretty good support system in the community.“
It will be fascinating to watch the players in action this week. Biltmore Championship Asheville is a brand new event, so there will be no advantage for any player.
It really is anyone’s tournament, as they say.
