Charlton Athletic manager Karen Hills: “We scored an unbelievable goal, then it was about holding on until half-time to give us a reset moment, but unfortunately it didn’t happen. That third goal was a sucker punch for us.
“The message at half-time was to go out and keep doing what we were doing.
“I thought today we were excellent in terms of pressing and the way we competed with a very good London City side.
“If you get caught up on the result then it’s not going to help. We are a new team, for a lot of these players it’s their first time playing at this level. It’s going to take time to get up to speed. These games are tough, it’s a learning opportunity for these players, but we don’t have time to just learn. We need to try and get results.
“I take full responsibility – I set them up to be aggressive, to take the game to them. I’m so proud of them.”
